The Afro-Bohemian vibe has become extremely popular, attributing to the fact that several Western celebrities are embracing it and using their influence to make it trend. Celebrities such as Solange Knowles, Erykah Badu and Zoe Kravitz are a few examples.
Let’s just say the trend has caught on worldwide, and even here in Kenya. Stylewe.com has a great selection of boho-inspired clothes that will inspire you to get into the whole vibe.
Below are ideas on how to wear white boho chic dresses.
Plain white boho dresses with lace are a must-have item in any Afro-bohemian fashionista’s closet. They are extremely stylish and literally classify as your LWD. I loved this white-pierced midi boho dress by StyleWe.com.
Jazz-up your closet and your day with some flower-power (especially if you aren't putting any in your hair). Floral prints look great for afro-boho fashion, and I am eyeing this floral print spaghetti maxi-dress by StyleWe.com.
Stripes exude a classy appeal, and they can really amp-up the Afro-bohemian vibe. I loved this plunging neck beach linen maxi dress. The long V-neck allows for you to add several neckpieces that will be a great addition.
Geometric designs add a futuristic appeal to any outfit, and paired with feather earrings and a long necklace could look great on anyone. I absolutely love this geometric print V-neck boho dress.
How would you wear these outfits? Leave us a comment.

Online shopping in Kenya has seen accelerated growth in the past few years thanks to various factors such as the growth of mobile telecom services, online payment based platforms and increased internet penetration.
Today, Kenyans are increasingly choosing to spend their money online over traditional brick-and-mortar stores, mostly due to the convenience offered by the latter.
Traditional retailers and brands have taken note of the trend and in hopes to boost their sales, are now moving in to take advantage of opportunities presented by the growth of the online shopping industry. While some are opting to launch their own online stores, majority are partnering with existing eCommerce platforms to capture this segment.
Bernard Gibendi, a sales representative at Mika Appliances says, “We recognize a lot of our customers notice the convenience of shopping online. You can easily buy a product from the comfort of your home and have it delivered to your doorstep.”
Online shopping also allows people to scout for the best deals of the product they want to buy.
Gibendi says, “There are various discounts that are run online as compared to offline. It’s easier for one to know the offers available online.”
His assertions are alluded to by Nelson Mukabana, sales representative of Armco appliances, “Online platforms allow us to tailor make campaigns for our customers through eCommerce platforms such as Rupu”
Among other benefits, such as new customer acquisition, eCommerce offers this brands free digital marketing of their products and as noted by Mukabana, an online shop is more cost effective and requires little capital as compared to a physical store.
According to Stacey Ondimu, Managing Director Rupu this shift is evidence to the growth of the eCommerce industry noting that this is a far cry from when Rupu started, five years ago.
“At the time it was almost unthinkable to approach renowned brands so we are limited to small merchants. Today, we partner with top brands across various industries from restaurants to travel, electronics and more.
Even stores that do set up their own online platforms still find that we are able to complement their online operations with a seamless eCommerce experience. We plug in by providing services such as Marketing, Delivery and Customer Service tailored to suit their brands” adds Stacey.
Rupu is now offering merchants the opportunity to have their own online shop with a customized url and marketing targeted to push their brand. This takes away the hassle of brands having to set up their own eCommerce platform.
Some of the brands currently on Rupu enjoying the newly set up Rupu Shops feature include Bata, Mika, Black & Decker, Philips, Hotpoint, Arcmo and more.

Prom season is upon us. I have fond memories of all three prom nights I went to, particularly of my last prom where my sister and I got to wear a long evening dresses, and I had mine in my favorite color – purple. The previous prom night’s I had danced the night away in short dresses, but for the last prom I was going to attend I felt that a long evening dress was the most appropriate fit for me - as I was no longer in high school, an adult, out navigating this thing called life.
Long dresses exude elegance and have you ever noticed when you move in them, it looks so seamless. That is part of the reason I love long dresses, but the best part for me is how much taller they make me look and feel. I would say that may best combination are black evening dresses, as they make me appear slimmer and taller.
Red evening dresses are also on my list of favorites as the color red as it exudes sexiness and boldness. The great part about prom, apart from the dancing and food, is the fact that you can push the fashion boundaries with a creative dress, be it in design or color. So, why don’t you make it a bold color, like red? In my head, I am channeling Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren and Jennifer Laurence in Calvin Klein.
You may even decide to switch it up a bit by selecting evening maxi dresses, which are also very flattering for plus size women. Here are a selection of evening dresses UK and plus size evening dresses that you can peruse through below for some more ideas.
If you are reading this post because you are making a last minute decision on what to wear for prom, the above are just some ideas, and at the end of the day, it is up to you to go with whatever you feel is right.

Christmas is a time for joy and merriment with the people you love most. Whether you’re spending Yuletide with family or friends this year, your day will most likely be filled with laughter, squabbles, delicious food, silly games and much more. It’s a time to recuperate, relax, to celebrate your relationships and to give generously to one another. Christmas is undeniably a time for magic: if there’s any time of the year where dreams can come true, it’s this one. This got us thinking: if there were three guests we could invite to dinner from the wonderful world of fashion, who would they be? We’d want people with a tale or two to share, who have demonstrated incredible talent and finesse in their work, who are inspired by the world around them and who’d help us to have a fabulous Christmas. We thought long and hard and these are the three fashion mavens who would make the cut, which also includes what we’d wear whilst hanging out with them.
This Croyden-born model is perhaps one of the greatest models of all time. She was first discovered at the age of 14 and has been modelling ever since, for everyone from Calvin Klein and Chanel to Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent. Not only has she been a muse to photographers and fashion designers alike, she is renowned for her infamous party spirit. Think of the tales she could tell us about ex-boyfriends Johnny Depp and Pete Doherty; her time spent at Glastonbury festival; or the inner workings of the infamous Primrose Hill style set. Kate would have stories to tell about working with some of the 20th and 21st centuries’ greatest talents, from Mario Testino and Alexander McQueen to Patrick Demarchelier, in addition to the nine months it took for artist Lucian Freud to paint her portrait whilst she was pregnant with her daughter Lila Grace. There wouldn’t be a dull moment with Kate around: we’d be popping champagne corks after opening presents, turning the Christmas songs up loud and taking the party all the way through to Boxing Day. Renowned for her simple but incredibly polished signature style, we’d wear a pair of sleek tapered trousers, a woolly oversized jumper and pointed heels to suit the occasion. Shop similar styles at MaryJane Fashion.
Spending Christmas Day with Karl Lagerfeld would be a whirlwind of discussions about fashion, culture, literature and art, with a few exciting anecdotes thrown in. Karl has worked in the fashion industry since 1955 when he won a design competition and caught the eye of legendary couturier Pierre Balmain. Since then, he has worked in both ready-to-wear and haute couture for Chloé, Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous line as well as frequently making films and photographic series. He lived and worked throughout the sixties and seventies, when the world underwent significant cultural revolutions, which would make for some fascinating insight into the way in which fashion has changed: we’d ask him about the hemlines that became shorter and shorter, the floral chiffon fabrics of the 1970s and the way that the atelier has had to adapt to increasing demand for fashion. We have a feeling that Karl would be excellent at playing games like Pictionary, thanks to his extraordinary talent for sketching and drawing, plus a lot of our time would also be spent making time to play with his beautiful cat Choupette. After dinner? A arthouse film that asks questions about art and beauty. There’d be nothing else to wear in front of Karl than head-to-toe Chanel.
Olivier Rousteing is the young, hot-shot creative director at Balmain who has revamped the French fashion house’s image as the go-to for fun and flirty partywear, with celebrity fans including Jourdan Dunn, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian. He knows how to help women to feel like they can turn heads at party whilst looking luxurious and elegant. Importantly, he embodies a certain approach to modernity within the fashion industry thanks to his diverse and unique background, and understands the way in which social media can help people to feel like an inclusive part of the fashion industry. Therefore, on Christmas Day, we’d be taking plenty of pictures of our food/gifts/general antics for him to upload onto his active and much-used Instagram account. We can imagine that there would be a lot of dancing around to festive songs and long laughter filled discussions about feminism and womanhood: we would love to congratulate him on his appreciation for women of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities, and his encouragement of diversity on the runway and in his advertising campaigns. In terms of style, we’d lift a pair of glittery sheer tights straight from the nineties and wear a luxurious velvet dress over the top: we can’t decide between a skater dress or a bodycon number, but then it would depend upon how much we’ve eaten!

Have you ever been on an online shopping website several times, just to see what they have, yet you’ve never bought anything from them? That was me, with the website Rupu.co.ke. It’s not like I never wanted to shop from the website, it’s just that I somehow always wound up changing my mind. The fact of the matter is, Rupu have great discounts on items you would normally spend quite a few bucks on, and this time around I finally got around to shopping on the website.
What did I get? A new pair of lipsticks (yes, because a girl can never have enough lipsticks). I have been meaning to purchase a new lipstick, especially since I always wind up losing the one’s I own. The best part about shopping via Rupu is that I got a great deal on two L’Oreal lipsticks - Project Runway special edition. They were only going for Kshs 680, and the original price was Kshs 1,200. It was hard to say “no” to that bargain.
When I joined the corporate world just more than a year ago, I had to restructure my whole wardrobe to customize my new attire – business formal. It sounds boring, especially if you’re used to adorning casual jeans and tops. It seemed like a whole shift for me that would take me out of my comfort zone. But I now had to channel by Meryl Streep – from The Devil wears Prada. I realized there was a way I could remain chic in business formal without being boring, or spending too much money to buy new clothes. Here’s step one on how I began changing my wardrobe.
I began with a staple – a black blazer. Who doesn’t have a black blazer in their closet? If you don’t, then I suggest you get one. They can be paired with literally anything – from casual tops with jeans, to a formal dress for work. That’s why I love my black blazer. Secretly, I totally wear casual tops inside, and put on my formal blazer on top, and no one’s the wiser.
Zaful.com has a great variety of black blazers for women that can match any style, and they are cost-friendly too. I love their asymmetrical swallow-tailed long sleeve blazer; it conveys a high-fashion, gentleman-like aura. Therefore, for ladies that love changing up their fashion game by taking menswear and transforming it into women’s wear, this is that blazer for you. You can view the blazer here and below.
Spice it up with the edgy, formal look with a PU leather spliced long sleeve blazer. The blazer also has zippers at the end of each sleeve, putting the cherry on top of the whole edgy look. Its brilliant design means that it doesn’t have a defined collar cut; hence it doesn’t have buttons or a zipper. You can view a picture of the blazer below.
One other black blazer you really have to check out is the Zaful’s solid color stand collar zipper blazer. The blazer is perfect with cigarette pants and a chiffon top. At least that’s the way I would wear it. The blazer also comes in more colors you can see below.
I'm ecstatic! Why? All because the season's changed, and with that change comes time for a new wardrobe. And that means...shopping! I love to shop for clothes and shoes, jewellery and accessories, plus I don't think I know a girl who doesn't love to shop.
I like to plan ahead, and a lot of ladies interested in fashion do the same. I start by scouting blogs and various websites to see what is in season and what is trending. I can at least begin to imagine what trending items I would want to shop for that would look good on me. Plus, I know from experience that shopping without an idea of what I want is quite disastrous.
One such website you can check out that has all the trendy items this season is Apparel Candy. They have it down to the last detail, so you can shop for entire outfits that coordinate with each other; right from your dress, to nail polish, to lipstick and perfume and so much more.
What’s more, they have wholesale clothing; therefore you can shop for as many items you want without being overburdened by cost. Isn’t that great? It also works out perfectly if you are in the business-end of fashion, because purchasing items such as wholesale tops in bulk and having them shipped will be very simple and easy on your pocket.
Here are some items already on sale at Apparel Candy:

Conseils beauté! Ahem, excuse my French, but that just means "beauty tips." I recently asked my aunt to share her beauty secrets, because she always looks absolutely great, as you can already see. Here are her special tips.
Her Weekly Routine:
Once a week, she uses plain Greek yogurt mixed with avocado as a face mask.
To make the face mask, use one Avocado and mash it in a bowl until all the lumps are gone. Avocado's help to brighten skin and reduce age spots by increasing the production of collagen.
Next, add a spoonful of Greek yogurt and a spoonful of honey. Honey works wonders as it helps soak up impurities from your skin, cures acne, plus soaks up any impurities. Greek yogurt contains natural alpha hydroxy acid, that helps smooth and exfoliate skin. After applying on your skin, leave it in for half an hour then rinse out.
Her Daily Routine:
She never uses soap on her face, instead she uses Oil of Olay face cloths, which lather like soap when run under water. And, to remove makeup she uses Burt's Bees cucumber cloths which are great for removing heavy makeup. For her whole body, she uses Aveeno body wash orchid scent.
To moisturize her skin she uses Oil of Olay complete moisturizer mixed with 2 squirts of Oil of Olay Regenerist serum and 2 drops of Vitamin E oil for her face and neck. At night, she uses Oil of Olay hydrating night cream.
Finally, she uses Aveeno fragrance-free lotion for her body and, of course, the ever useful Vaseline for her forearms, hands, legs and ankles.
What is your daily beauty routine? Feel free to share.

I have always wanted to write a post about prom, and here it is finally! The prom season is upon us, and although I have surpassed the age to attend a prom, I always want to pass on the excitement I had preparing for my prom. Actually, I attended 3 prom events to be exact, and the best part of them all – the preparation. It was finally an evening to ditch the school uniform and get all dolled up in makeup, the dress I had bought months earlier and my tall heels. OK, but I’ll be honest; the 3 prom events were spread out in a span of 3 years from when I finished my O-Levels until when I completed my A-Levels. Below is the dress I wore to my final year prom.
Now, about that dress, Sherry London is offering some pretty huge discounts on their gorgeous dresses so that you can look dolled up for your evening without having to break bank. What are you planning to wear - Will it be a short cocktail dress or a long mermaid gown? What’s your signature style – Is it Urban chic or gothic? Sherry London has the dress to match your style and expectations, take your pick from the several dresses below:
With the use of sophisticated fabric and fine detailing, Sherry London prom dress designers have embodied grace and refinement - which is the trend for Prom 2015. Stand out from the crowd, happy shopping!

Bohemian – It’s all about being completely unique and following your artistic nature. The boho-chic, indie or hippie look is not a popular one in Kenya, especially with the conservative fashion market Kenya has. We are used to dressing in urban apparel and rarely will you find a store with a wide selection of fashion styles at affordable prices if we compare us to let's say American stores such as Forever 21.
Boho-chic is a style you’ll see celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Solange Knowles or Nicole Richie sport easily and look absolutely stunning while doing it. The Boho-chic style is characterized by loose-fitting, colorful clothes and at times lots of jewelry or none at all. The point is to create an original look by drawing style inspiration from the natural elements (earth, wind, air, and fire). The reason the look has always been embraced by artistic people is due to the fact that the style embraces creativity and an indifference to social structures – a feeling of breaking away from the norm. And isn’t this free-thinking nature what artists are all about?
Today’s boho-chic look is gradually being embraced by Kenyans, with African prints now being incorporated into boho-chic clothes. Speaking with Brianna Kisia, the designer of Fashion Mountain (a Kenyan bohemian clothing brand), she commented by saying that indie fashion can easily pick in the market. “Though, it’s hard to sell to Kenyans when they want are the same old looks, i.e. peplum tops, bodycon skirts etc. This means that a majority of my market is international when I’m really designing these clothes for Kenyans.”
Kenyans need to embrace new styles and forms of dressing to promote various unique Kenyan designers. This way, the Kenyan fashion industry can grow to the point where international celebrities recognize the talent that is here and promote the country as a destination for global events such as Mercedes Benz fashion week.
Peace. Love. Harmony, Man!
