Ladies! And the few gents who have invested in your hair... Moisture is water, water is moisture. To have healthy kinky hair, you have to make water your best friend. Drinking it + spritzing it directly onto your hair= healthy hair.
I know we grew up differently. Your hair would be pulled and tugged during the prep process at the salon. Shampoo and conditioner made with sulphates and parabens was lathered onto your hair, you were blow dried at the highest/hottest setting and finally when it came to the cornrows the hair was pulled some more. Well people, sorry not sorry but this has to be unlearned. You must give your hair a fighting chance because contrary to what you have been told; kinky, natural hair is GOOD hair!
Let's get down to it, how do you wash your hair? First off, I will say do not comb your hair while dry. This just contributes to the pulling and tugging that I was talking about before. If is best to comb your hair while wet. I find it easy to do in the shower or under a running tap. Yes bend. The flowing water makes it easy for your hair to detangle.
Next use a sulphate free, paraben free shampoo. When you pay attention to this process, after a while you will be able to feel the difference in your hair. Trust me, this is gold!
Another tip, the products you use on your hair will create build up meaning the product you add to your hair is blocked by a layer and will not be able to do its work. Invest in a clarifying product; I use apple cider vinegar once a month. Mix it in a spray bottle with water in the ration of 1:4
Conditioner is important, especially when you are doing a no poo wash, meaning no shampoo. Use it to detangle and make the combing process easier.
After this I usually do a twist out or flat twist depending on my mood. I use a mix of avocado, castor and argan oil. I do the twists using shea butter. Plait your hair while it is wet, why? Because water is moisture and moisture is water. Sing this while in your transition journey and your hair will thank you.
To maintain the moisture in your hair, get a spray bottle. You can add the oils you choose to it then fill it up with water
Are you seeing a trend here? Water is included in every step. Get over your fear of getting your hair wet; it is actually good for it.
